Dear year eleven (honest version)

You've made it. You've somehow managed to survive four years of secondary school and the end is in sight. Firstly, I'd just like to say a massive well done. I feel your pain.

If your September has been the same as mine was last year, your teachers are telling you to start revising. Again, if you're anything like me, don't do it. Your real exams will mostly start in May. You'll have mock exams soon, but these aren't in any way an indication of how you are going to perform in the real ones. Turn up to all your lessons (all of them!), listen, take notes, do your homework and turn up to intervention when they ask you to. At this point in the year, that's all you can do! Work on keeping yourself healthy and cultivating friendships. Trust me, that's the important stuff!

Your teachers are probably starting to seem very stressed, but trust me, you haven't seen stress until you've seen them once your exams have started. They only want what's best for you, and they only want what's best for you because it reflects well on them (I'm kidding, Geez) but don't take everything they say as gospel. They are only people, the same as the rest of us. Sometimes certain teachers like to pretend that they're not, but they are!! Their advice is not always the best, and you just need to keep doing you.

The same goes for your friends. They're not perfect, they will let you down, but they will also make this year a little more bearable.

*disclaimer: I wasn't a perfect student. At all. There are quite a lot of teachers who will back me up on that haha. I didn't spend all my time revising, but I did always do my homework, turn up to intervention and give it my best. I managed to pass all my exams whilst holding down a part-time job, volunteering, seeing my friends & family, going out after school and working through a pretty hefty application process for my apprenticeship. School does not need to be your life. I'm giving you that advice knowing full well that I'm even less of a favourite with my old teachers :))

Hang on in there
